Denturism in Wyoming

Please consider allowing the people of Wyoming the same freedom of choice in denture care enjoyed by denture-wearers in Montana and Idaho.

Thank you, Representative Loucks, Kroeker, and Winters; and Senators Case and Geis for sponsoring the HB0256 denturist bill.

The bill is a good one - and represents the Wyoming people's need for an alternative delivery system for removable oral prostheses as in Montana, Idaho, and four other states. With the changes coming in healthcare and Medicaid, it will be important for Wyoming Legislators to consider alternative oral healthcare providers such as denturists, dental therapists, and expanded and independent practices for dental hygienists for better public health service.

This denturism initiative closely resembles measures that have been passed in Wyoming’s surrounding states. Since 1982 in Idaho, 1984 in Montana, and 1979 in Oregon, denturism has been proven to be an effective, safe, and affordable option for denture patients. Canada has recognized the profession of denturism for over 50 years. These states and countries have proven that a denturist is a competent and reliable alternative to a dentist for the provision of dentures.

Washington State Health Coordinating Council under the department of Social and Health Services found in 1987 that denturists posed no threat to the public’s health and that legislation on denturism should be enacted.
